The Junior Ambassadors of the Bowers

2024 Update: Please note this program has two sessions: one involves training at the Bowers Museum, and the other involves going to the Shanghai Museum for further training. The Shanghai part needs to be determined by the specific circumstances of the year. In 2024, students will not go to Shanghai because the Shanghai Museum is moving to a new venue.

One of the greatest benefits of the Bowers Museum’s Fellows program is the opportunity to send young high school age students to our Junior Ambassadors Program. This program enables students to travel to Shanghai and work as interns at the world famous Shanghai Museum for a period of two weeks in the summer. Began by Bowers Chairwoman Anne Shih over 20 years ago, well over 100 students have had their lives changed by working side by side with Shanghai Museum staff to gain confidence in public speaking by touring English speaking visitors in the museum. To build their skills, students take an intense course that teaches them about Chinese culture and the world class artifacts exhibited in the museum. This experience then extends to the Bowers Museum where they tour visitors and take additional classes over the better part of a year under the leadership of Bowers' Docents.

Over the past 20 years, Bowers has enjoyed watching our Ambassadors grow as they are often admitted to important Universities around the U.S. We are very proud of the program and its many graduates. Your children can take part in this unique program too by joining the Bowers Fellows today!
