SATURDAY | JUNE 7 | 1:30 – 3:30 PM
NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | LECTURE
Presented by Dr. Luiza Osorio G. Silva, Assistant Professor of Art History, Archaeology, and Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine
Traditional views of Egyptian kingship focus on grand monuments, royal rhetoric, and images of conquest. However, recent scholarship explores how non-royal Egyptians in the Middle Kingdom engaged with kingship, revealing a more complex and dynamic relationship. In this lecture, Luiza Osorio G. Silva discusses insights from her book project, Kings from Below, challenging the idea that Egyptian culture was defined solely by its rulers.
